Give Whales a Voice.

The Problem

To help Optus promote their sponsorship of animal welfare charity WSPA, we suggested they make an impact on a big scale – at the 2010 International Whaling Commission in Morocco. And given that whales can’t speak for themselves, who better to help people speak for them than a mobile phone company?

The Solution

So we gave people the opportunity to help give whales a voice.They were asked to record a single word on the website, a mobile site and at an ambient stunt endorsed by celebrity Sammy Lucas. We then used their words to create a video on behalf of Australia which was presented at the IWC conference to delegates from around the world with the support of the Australian Minister for the Enviroment, Peter Garret.

The Results

The campaign received massive media coverage on both news and entertainment sites. Over 100,000 visitors to the site recorded a word, more than enough to make our speech. The resulting video, played at the International Whaling Commission conference, made a powerful statement on behalf of everyday Australians against international whaling.
